Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all winemaking operations to ensure operational excellence.
- Lead the winery team, providing professional development opportunities and operational leadership.
- Develop production plans to meet forecasts, style, budgets, and timelines.
- Establish winemaking styles and technical standards, defining specifications and production processes.
- Drive wine quality by maintaining standards and control procedures, including a comprehensive wine analysis program.
- Liaise with growers, conducting vineyard inspections and coordinating logistics during harvest seasons.
- Ensure bottling specifications are met and analysis is completed.
- Maintain a safe working environment, adhering to regulatory compliance and process standards.
- Manage accurate and up-to-date winemaking and production systems and records.
- Optimize winery budgets and operational costs, delivering forecasts and reports.
- Assist with capital investment projects, enhancing production facilities for optimal performance and profitability.
- Identify and develop strategies for growth opportunities, including new product development.
- Represent the organization, fostering positive relationships with customers and trade partners.
- Implement KPI dashboards to track progress and drive improvement.
- Contribute to the company's HACCP program.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Oenology or a relevant field.
- Proven experience managing large-scale winery operations and multidisciplinary teams.
- Business acumen and financial management skills.
- Advanced technical knowledge across a range of styles and varieties.
- Astute understanding of sensory analysis and quality evaluation.
- Broad knowledge of national and global wine trends and styles.
- Experience with bulk wine and no- and low-alcohol production is an advantage.
- Understanding of viticulture principles.
- Proficiency in modern business software and technology.
- Innovative thinking and experience in new product development.
- Strong communication skills for engaging with diverse audiences.
- Valid forklift and driver's license.
- Capacity for domestic and international travel.
