System Boot Engineer

Job Description:

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the boot process of Ubuntu systems is fast, reliable, and secure across all devices and in the cloud.

As a key member of the team, you will focus on maintaining and enhancing the Ubuntu bootloader stack. Your technical expertise should span from hardware to firmware and Linux itself.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with distributed teams to develop high-quality code for new features and contribute upstream.
  • Participate in code reviews and design reviews to shape the boot architecture of Ubuntu.
  • Work with teams focused on Ubuntu for server, desktop, IoT, and clouds to improve overall performance and experience.
  • Contribute to feature and bug fixes in projects like Grub, shim, u-boot, and associated tools.

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of lower-level technologies, including Secure Boot, Measured Boot, Full Disk Encryption, and other technologies used during the modern operating system boot process.
  • Experience working with highly technical engineers and contributing to open-source projects.
  • Strong understanding of software development principles, including code quality, reliability, and security.
