Freight Operator Level 4 - Key Responsibilities

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight across our network.

  • Train Operations: Control the movement of trains, undertake training as required, and maintain safety protocols at all times.
  • Rolling Stock Maintenance: Inspect, repair, service, and maintain rolling stock to ensure optimal performance.
  • Support Functions: Assist in the maintenance of locomotives, ancillary vehicles, machines, and equipment, and conduct brake testing of trains.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with depot personnel, clients, and operational staff via face-to-face interactions and two-way radio.
  • Shunting and Marshalling: Undertake shunting and marshalling of trains to ensure efficient freight movement.
About You

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-focused individual with:

  • C Class Drivers Licence: Mandatory requirement for the role.
  • Shunt Qualification: Preferred but not essential.
  • Strong Commitment to Safety: Essential for ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of mechanical principles and ability to apply them in a practical setting.
  • Problem-Solving and Communication Skills: Excellent communication and problem-solving skills to effectively interact with colleagues and clients.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work day and night shifts, including weekends, as required.
