Job Summary:
The Queensland Government is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Environmental Officer to join our team in the Environmental Services and Regulation (ESR) division of the Department of Environment and Science (DESI).
About the Role:
As a Senior Environmental Officer, you will play a key role in providing targeted, consistent, and transparent regulation that facilitates sustainable development in Queensland. You will work within the ESR division, which proactively manages and monitors environmental risks through a modern and innovative regulatory framework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and manage environmental risks associated with applications and activities
- Conduct compliance activities, including responding to incidents and complaints, and visiting high-risk sites to check on businesses' environmental performance
- Provide advice and guidance to license holders on their environmental obligations
- Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to achieve environmental outcomes
Requirements:
- University degree (undergraduate and/or postgraduate) from a recognized tertiary institution in environmental management, or a closely related discipline
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
