About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regulatory Specialist to join our team at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. As a key member of our Legislative Support Team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effective administration of offshore petroleum and greenhouse gas storage titles, as well as offshore electricity infrastructure licenses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Legislative Support Team manager and Legislative Support Specialists in managing the team and workflows.
  • Work with the Legislative Support Specialists to draft legal requests and review legal advice on complex legal matters arising under the legislation administered by the branch.
  • Collaborate with staff within NOPTA and the Registrar to implement legal advice and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Maintain the NOPTA library of legal advice and ensure that processes and procedures are up to date.
  • Develop and deliver training on legislative matters, including administrative law, compliance, and enforcement.
  • Work with staff within the Legislative Support Team, NOPTA, and the Registrar to coordinate responses to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
Requirements
  • Australian citizenship.
  • Baseline security clearance.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (or commensurate qualifications/experience).
  • Experience working within a regulator/administrator, interpreting and administering legislation (including administrative decision-making).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
