Job Description for Grounds Service Officer

Our school is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Grounds Service Officer to join our team. This role plays a key part in maintaining the overall appearance and safety of our school environment, including gardens, grounds, playing fields, and external surfaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out routine maintenance tasks such as lawn mowing, edging, pruning, planting, mulching, and fertilizing.
  • Prepare ovals for sporting events by laying out and line marking playing fields.
  • Oversee and maintain equipment and machinery used in grounds work.
  • Distribute and apply pesticides, sprays, and fertilizers safely and effectively.
  • Operate a wide range of specialized machinery and equipment for lawns, turf, and playing fields.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior staff members.
  • Manage stores and facilities, including stock control and record keeping.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for staff, students, and visitors.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Relevant experience in maintaining gardens, lawns, and playing surfaces.
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining pumps, irrigation equipment, and drainage systems.
  • Ability to safely distribute and apply pesticides, sprays, and fertilizers, with proficiency in operating and maintaining specialized machinery and equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing stores and facilities, including stock control and record keeping.
  • Experience in supervising and training junior staff members.
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications at Certificate III level, or completion of an apprenticeship would be highly regarded.
