Teaching Role

We strive to create a supportive and stimulating environment where our students can flourish. Our educational approach focuses on the holistic development of young people, prioritizing their wellbeing and academic progress.

Our staff are united by a shared sense of purpose and commitment to delivering high-quality education. We work together to serve our community, driven by the challenges and opportunities that come with teaching young people.

Melton Secondary College is a vibrant and inclusive learning community that values the contributions of all its members. With a diverse student body of over 1400 students and a team of over 170 staff, we recognize the importance of fostering strong relationships and a culture of mutual respect.

Our teaching staff are encouraged to learn and grow both in their practice and leadership roles. We provide comprehensive support through our induction program, ensuring that both experienced and new teachers feel valued and empowered to make a positive impact.

Our instructional model, LEARN, is grounded in evidence-based best practices like Marzano/Pollock GANAG. We utilize cutting-edge technology, including Office365, Compass, and Apple devices, to enhance teaching and learning.

Every day begins with a 6-minute morning circle, promoting social-emotional learning and connection among students and staff. This focus on community and well-being sets the tone for a productive and engaging school day.

Staff who are passionate about making a lasting impact as educators have opportunities to lead and innovate in areas such as writing, social-emotional learning assessment, and extracurricular programs.

**Key Selection Criteria:**

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant curriculum and experience in meeting diverse student needs.
  2. Experience in designing and implementing high-impact teaching strategies, informed by an understanding of how students learn.
  3. Ability to monitor student progress, use data to inform instruction, and provide constructive feedback on student growth.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, facilitating collaborative relationships to support student learning.
  5. Behaviors and attitudes consistent with Department values, reflecting on practice and engaging in ongoing professional development.

The classroom teacher plays a vital role in planning, preparing, and delivering effective programs to achieve specific outcomes. Continuous reflection and inquiry help teachers refine their practice and engage students more effectively.

As classroom teachers gain experience, they contribute increasingly to the broader school program, taking on additional responsibilities as needed.
