This position involves collaborating with talented professionals working on iconic projects to deliver future-ready outcomes that benefit clients and communities. You will work on multi-disciplinary engineering projects, leveraging your experience in substation design from either our Sydney or Newcastle office.

The Energy team at WSP supports clients in maintaining safe and reliable power supplies, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and developing future energy schemes for sustainable city transitions.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Conduct high-voltage (primary) design of transmission & distribution substations, including layouts, ratings, sizing, specification, and technical oversight.
  • Develop project-level and equipment-level specifications.
  • Apply knowledge of power system protection and SCADA systems.
  • Leverage expertise in transmission lines and underground cables.
  • Utilize understanding of power system earthing design.
  • Support the high-voltage scope for Owner's Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects.
  • Review designs and reports.
  • Verify and check design work performed by other team members.
  • Counsel and mentor junior staff in electrical engineering or project delivery.
  • Provide leadership in Safety-in-Design (SID) and fulfill legislative requirements in SID.
  • Lead design projects and coordinate with various disciplines, including civil, structural, geotechnical, secondary, drafting, and control systems.
  • Perform short-term site visits as needed.
  • Prepare proposals and contribute to business development for the team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years' post-graduate experience.
  • RPEQ/RPEV registration is mandatory.
  • Prior experience in a consultancy environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with EHV and HV electrical engineering from conceptual to detailed design in substations, cable systems, transmission & distribution utilities, or renewable energy projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and provide robust advice and support design projects through clear communication of project status, issues, and risks.
  • Proficiency in proposal and report writing.
