The Opportunity

We're seeking a skilled Workshop Technician, Engineering Technician, or R&D Tradesperson to join our Research and Development team at Minchinbury in our BlueScope Building Components business. As a key member of our team, you'll play a critical role in ensuring we deliver superior steel building products to the Australian market.

Working in our NATA-accredited development and testing facility, you'll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from constructing prototypes to operating purpose-built test equipment. Your skills and expertise will be essential in helping us develop new and innovative building systems and solutions that meet the highest standards of compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC).

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete test builds and installations of our building products and systems in accordance with industry codes and Australian Standards
  • Support the development of new and innovative building systems and solutions
  • Perform testing of prototypes with R&D engineers
  • Deconstruct test samples at the completion of the tests
  • Perform some machinery and equipment maintenance and general housekeeping

Requirements

  • Practical experience from the residential or commercial building industry
  • Knowledge of tools of the trade, including portable power tools, pneumatic and hand tools
  • Experience using measuring equipment and operating workshop machinery
  • Capability in interpreting building/construction drawings and/or sketches
  • Interest in problem-solving and continuous improvement
