We are seeking an experienced Dispute Resolution Advocate to join our team in Melbourne. As a key member of our claims team, you will play a critical role in managing and resolving disputes, ensuring positive outcomes for our clients.

Job Description:

This full-time, permanent position requires strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills. You will work closely with our clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to resolve disputes through arbitration hearings, conciliation conferences, and negotiations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and evaluating evidence, and making submissions on facts and law at arbitration hearings and conciliation conferences;
  • Evaluating the merits of disputes and determining resolution strategies;
  • Gathering and preparing evidence, including arranging and cross-examining witnesses as required;
  • Engaging with all relevant internal and external stakeholders, including clients, workers, and representatives;
  • Meeting key performance indicators and reviewing and reporting on identified scheme trends and individual cases;
  • Staying up-to-date with case law and precedents affecting claims determinations and the scheme.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification;
  • Background in Victorian workers compensation disputation and litigation processes or in alternative dispute resolution;
  • Strong engagement, negotiation, conflict resolution, people and stakeholder management skills;
  • Understanding of Victorian workers compensation legislation and case law, the Online Claims Manual and additional WorkSafe guidelines, processes and procedures;
  • Experience or familiarity with legal processes, including concepts of procedural fairness and knowledge of the rules of evidence;
  • Ability to give logical, practical, easily comprehensible, strategic and scheme holistic advice and recommendations;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including previous advocacy experience;
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office products and ability to use claims management data systems.
