A systems engineer in our Onboarding & Connections Group plays a pivotal role in shaping the power system for AEMO, driving transformation through renewable energy generation and electrification.
This unique opportunity allows you to see your work come to life, visiting projects you've helped shape and forging long-term partnerships with key players in the energy sector.
As an engineer in this group, you'll have the chance to mentor junior team members while building your professional profile through active participation in industry forums, working groups, conferences, and professional memberships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with network service providers, connection applicants, and/or original equipment manufacturers to assess and negotiate performance standards as well as progress commissioning activities.
- Conduct power system simulations and analysis to determine grid connection requirements for new large-scale generators, including the assessment of generator models, reactive power plants, and control systems.
- Interpret and justify simulation outcomes, draw conclusions, and provide robust recommendations on technical performance requirements.
- Develop clear, concise, and high-quality written and verbal communication to inform internal or external stakeholders on a range of issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Improve AEMO's analysis/reporting methods and tools to meet business requirements and increase the efficiency of team operations.
Requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or other discipline relevant to power systems analysis.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in leading and contributing to project teams, with a proven ability to deliver outcomes through a pragmatic, service-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Well-developed experience in managing generator connection processes, with experience in assessing and resolving generator and power system performance issues.
- Strong understanding of the technical issues influencing large-scale infrastructure projects, with the ability to navigate negotiations where commercial and reputational considerations intersect with engineering requirements.
- Knowledge of the electricity industry, NEM dispatch process, generator behavior, and network constraints.
What We Offer:
- Flexible working: work from home, hybrid options, and additional leave options.
- Professional development via projects, industry networks, job rotation, study assistance, and more.
- Give back with up to 4 days of volunteering leave per year.
- Reward your hard work with annual performance bonuses (subject to eligibility).
- Embrace a healthier you with our wellness program, discounted health insurance, gym perks, and our comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
We value diversity and inclusivity in the workplace, welcoming applications from all backgrounds without regard to age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, parental status, race, religion, and our First Nation peoples.
