Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our design group, you will play a critical role in creating innovative solutions for the water industry.

About Your Role:
  • You will be responsible for developing detailed engineering documentation and contributing to the development of products such as water treatment plants, chemical dosing systems, and other specialized equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Develop preliminary design sketches for conceptual analysis.
  • Create, review, and update design specifications, documentation, and material lists.
  • Prepare comprehensive design and fabrication documentation packages for project engineers, fabricators, and installers.
  • Ensure all drawings and assemblies meet customer specifications, codes, and relevant industry standards.
  • Estimate material and production costs for proposed designs.
  • Research and evaluate new materials for design applications.
  • Organize and maintain engineering documentation and design archives.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure timely and accurate submission of design deliverables.
  • Construct prototypes and validate designs with the project team when required.
  • Support project engineering activities including procurement, factory build supervision, engineering documentation, and tendering assistance.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar engineering or design role.
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software, particularly SolidWorks and AutoCAD, along with engineering analysis tools.
  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • A self-starter mindset, comfortable working both independently and within a small, collaborative team.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams and external clients – both written and verbal.
  • A tertiary qualification in an engineering discipline preferred.
  • Solid understanding of SHEQ standards, relevant Australian regulations, and statutory compliance.
  • Experience in process industries, particularly water treatment and/or chemical engineering preferred. Exposure to design and build projects in mining or manufacturing is highly desirable.
