Funeral Service Assistant

This role involves working in a professional funeral, cemetery and crematoria environment. You will be responsible for performing body preparation procedures, such as maneuvering, lifting, washing, dressing, suturing, and setting facial features, to industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform body preparation procedures, including maneuvering, lifting, washing, dressing, suturing, and setting facial features
  • Prepare the deceased for presentation to the public, adhering to industry standards and respecting family requests
  • Handle deceased with dignity, care and respect at all times
  • Accurately complete mortuary registration and checking procedures
  • Maintain, clean and sterilise mortuary facilities and equipment
  • Perform coffin/casket trimming and engraving
  • Organise time efficiently and monitor daily workflow
  • Monitor stock levels and order as directed
  • Participate in day-to-day operational tasks, such as attending funerals, transfers, viewings, driving vehicles, and keeping work areas clean and tidy

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work within a professional funeral, cemetery and crematoria environment
  • Sensitivity and ability to work with grieving individuals and their values and beliefs
  • Understanding of the funeral service industry and its operations, or ability to rapidly acquire industry knowledge
  • Previous experience in a mortuary or similar environment is desirable
  • Customer-focused approach and effective communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow direction
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative, carrying out duties in a safe manner and in accordance with Manual Handling, WHS/OHS guidelines
  • Unrestricted Driver's License essential
  • Current First Aid certificate is highly desirable
