Canberra, ACT, Australia Australian Defence Force Full time

As a Surveyor with the Australian Defence Force, you will play a critical role in planning and maintaining survey control for Defence construction projects. This involves managing geodetic surveying data, establishing construction control points, and conducting site planning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Requirements gathering and client briefing
  • Geospatial terrain scanning and visualisation
  • Disaster evaluation
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Carrying out on-site investigation and surveys
  • Establishing control points for site layout and construction tasks
  • Complying with Government sponsored survey standards, codes and regulations

You will work closely with other Army teams, including Combat Engineers and Logistics, to support defence activities such as construction of field structures and obstacles, as well as temporary and semi-permanent camps. While this is not a combat role, you will learn to be a soldier first and may find yourself positioned close to the action.

No prior experience is required to join, as you will receive comprehensive training at your Initial Employment Training (IET). You will have opportunities to gain a range of qualifications, including a Diploma of Surveying and Civil Construction Induction Card (white card). Throughout your career, you will gain valuable management skills, such as construction management and project management.

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires self-motivation, initiative, and attention to detail. If you are passionate about geospatial work and enjoy working in a dynamic environment, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
