About the Role

The NSW Department of Education is seeking an Aboriginal Education Officer to provide assistance to teachers, Aboriginal students, and their families to support improved learning, welfare, and well-being outcomes for Aboriginal students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to teachers and students to improve learning outcomes
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Aboriginal education programs
  • Build relationships with Aboriginal students, families, and communities
  • Contribute to the development of culturally responsive teaching practices
Requirements
  • Working with Children Check Clearance
  • First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake First Aid training
  • Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal Education and Training policies
Selection Criteria
  • Understanding of the needs of Aboriginal students
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal communities and cultures
  • Ability to interact with Aboriginal students and parents
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community
