Donor Engagement Specialist

About the Role:
As a key member of our Philanthropy Team, you will cultivate and steward meaningful relationships with major donors, enabling the organisation to meet ambitious fundraising goals. Your role will drive significant impact across a portfolio of major donors, including relationships with trusts and foundations, ensuring customised donor journeys and innovative engagement activities that connect them to the mission.
This is a strategic role that requires a deep understanding of donor psychology, skilled at building connections and securing major gifts. You can craft compelling and persuasive proposals and presentations that resonate with donors. As a strategic thinker, you can deliver a best-practice, personalised approach to portfolio management, understanding each donor's motivations, goals, and needs, ensuring every interaction is meaningful and impactful.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of initiating and cultivating new high-value relationships, as well as experience in managing donor or sales portfolios, with an emphasis on retention and growth. They will be able to navigate the unique aspects of Ancillary Funds, Trusts, and Foundations, and demonstrate expertise in writing and presenting compelling proposals and confidence in making asks, whether in person, over the phone, or in writing.
Key Responsibilities:- Major Donor Engagement: Identify, qualify, and build relationships with donors in line with ambitious annual targets for major gifts.
- Portfolio Management: Enhance donor relationships by understanding the motivations, needs, and goals of donors; tailor approaches to create value and inspire long-term commitment and increased giving.
- Proposal Development: Prepare compelling, donor-centric proposals and reports that align program priorities with donor interests, creating persuasive cases for support.
- Appeals Strategy: Collaborate with the Communications and Individual Giving teams to develop targeted strategies that enhance donor engagement.
- Compliance and Best Practice: Ensure all activities are compliant with national and state fundraising laws, as well as Australian Privacy Principles, while upholding the highest standards of donor care.
- Support Initiatives: Contribute to broader philanthropic initiatives and cross-functional projects that drive long-term growth in philanthropic income.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant business or related discipline.
- Proven success in relationship management with a track record of initiating and cultivating new high-value relationships.
- Proven understanding of Ancillary Funds, Trusts, and Foundations, with a demonstrated ability to navigate the unique aspects of these funding sources.
- Demonstrated success in managing donor or sales portfolios, with an emphasis on retention and growth.
- Expertise in writing and presenting compelling proposals and confidence in making asks, whether in person, over the phone, or in writing.
- Understanding of the Australian philanthropic landscape, trends, and donor motivations.
- A competitive salary package with a base salary of AU$80,000 - AU$110,000 per annum.
