We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Manager to join our Onboarding and Connections Department at the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). As a Senior Project Manager, you will play a critical role in managing and coordinating a portfolio of diverse connections projects across both distribution and transmission, and of different technology types.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Develop and implement a consistent, structured, and transparent project and portfolio management framework to ensure quality, cost, risk, and timelines are met.
- Manage internal resource planning in collaboration with the relevant Engineering Manager, including review task level assessment of activities to ensure project resources are effectively used in delivering the project.
- Effectively communicate with stakeholders, including conveying technical issues and project constraints to a non-technical group of stakeholders.
- Lead workshops and chair project steering committee meetings, which may include external government agencies, Network Service Providers, proponents, and Senior AEMO leadership team.
- Responsible for managing detailed project schedule, timeline, and cost for a portfolio of projects.
- Deploy active problem-solving, an agile approach, and flexible mindset to respond to unique project and stakeholder issues that require speedy resolution.
- Provide leadership to the project management function within the Onboarding and Connections team, including coaching and mentoring junior employees.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline, such as project management, engineering, or a related field.
- Recognised project management certification is highly regarded.
You will also need:
- Knowledge of the energy sector, including the generator grid connection process.
- At least three to five years' experience in project, program, or portfolio delivery and management within the energy industry or a similar industry.
- Ability to understand, communicate, and manage complex energy engineering programs.
- Proficiency with relevant software for Project Management and Customer Relationship Management, and capability for analysis of project data.
- Proven track record in project managing several projects simultaneously and working within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Understanding of the key commercial and legal issues impacting on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proactive approach to relationship building within and across project teams, including both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in client-facing roles in a project environment requiring well-developed interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
