Job Overview

The primary purpose of this Tax Manager role is to manage tax compliance and advisory services for the New Zealand branch, ensuring a professional, effective and responsive tax service at optimal cost.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure operational tax compliance
  • Manage corporate tax compliance, tax accounting and audit activities
  • Properly and effectively manage tax exposures and risks by ensuring all tax compliance results in zero penalties
  • Provide tax advice to management and business units on taxation issues, as well as New Zealand tax advice to Group members on cross-border transactions involving New Zealand and determine when external advice is required
  • Support with influencing or lobbying external bodies, including the preparation of industry submissions and liaison with the Inland Revenue
  • Represent the New Zealand business at tax audits and meetings with the Inland Revenue, preparing and presenting submissions to the Inland Revenue
Requirements
  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree, preferably in Tax, Accounting, Finance or Business related
  • Professional qualification (member of recognised accountancy body e.g. CA)
  • Experience working for one of the big four professional service firms is highly desirable
  • Subject matter expertise in tax
  • A high level of professional competence which helps to advise the business on tax exposures and tax effective approach of business and operations
  • Understands and anticipates strategic implications from tax laws to the business
  • Significant experience in tax
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to articulate the case for risk management in the language of business
