About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for the receipting and processing of specimens, including the operation and maintenance of analysers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and handle specimens in accordance with laboratory procedures
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including analysers
  • Identify and prioritise urgent specimens
  • File and store specimens and data entry
  • Assist scientists in the laboratory as required
  • Stay up to date with processing requirements of different types of samples for different tests
  • Respond to result, sample requirements and general queries
  • Identify and resolve problems at the pre-analytic stage

About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to have a great blend of skills, including:

  • Specimen processing and data entry experience
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work as a team
  • Understanding the importance of following procedures accurately
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
  • Previous laboratory experience and exposure to medical terminology would be desirable, but not essential
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is desirable
