Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Heart Transplantation

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to focus their efforts on developing their expertise and emerging research profile in their discipline. At this level, it is expected that you will contribute to service and engagement roles and activities. You will have the opportunity to work with leading clinicians and scientists in the field of heart transplantation and donor organ preservation. In addition, you will be supported to take ownership of the project with a proven track record of the group to translate research into clinical trials.

• Research: Work with the existing team of transplant clinicians and scientists to lead the heart transplantation program. To be informed of the latest research and clinical developments in order to ensure the relevance and innovation of the research program. To contribute to study design and facilitate regular discussions. To seek and manage research funding and to establish own projects under the research program.
• Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise honours students and mentor PhD students and provide feedback and training.
• Citizenship and Service: Engage external stakeholders, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

The Critical Care Research Group (CCRG) is a multi-disciplinary research network based at The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH). CCRG's research is focused on patients with critical illness whose outcomes depend on strong inter-departmental and international collaborations.

CCRG prides itself in being a leader in critical care medicine and mechanical cardio-respiratory support devices. We have transformed clinical practices through our multiple clinically relevant large animal models (ovine and swine) to advance our understanding of critical illness and patient care, as well as the evaluation and development of next-gen biomedical devices.

• Completion or near completion of a PhD in biomedical science, cardiology, molecular biology, cell biology or related field.
• An emerging profile in research in cardiology, critical care medicine, and/or cardiac transplantation.
• Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
• Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding.
• Experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and in an efficient and well-organised manner under pressure.
• Resourceful and ability to problem-solve (please provide an example in your cover letter).

Desirable:

• Prior research with a strong focus on cardiology, organ preservation, or heart diseases.
• Experience working with large animal models.
• Experience in high-resolution respiratory and/or mitochondrial function.
• Experience in working with researchers on the field of critical care medicine and/or cardiac transplantation.
