At Our Place Society, we strive to provide a supportive environment where everyone feels welcome. As a Housing/Shelter Support Worker, you will be part of a team that works together to achieve our mission and values.
Job Responsibilities- Assist in identifying clients' problems, needs, and risks, and develop individualized plans to address these issues.
- Conduct one-on-one counselling sessions using evidence-based techniques, focusing on building basic life skills and promoting problem-solving strategies.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and community partners to provide comprehensive services and support to residents/shelter users.
- Participate in the development and implementation of service delivery plans, ensuring effective engagement and provision of services.
- Develop and maintain relationships with residents, shelter users, and community contacts, fostering positive communication and collaboration.
- Provide emotional support and empathy while maintaining professional boundaries, utilizing de-escalation skills to manage challenging situations.
- Respond to medical emergencies, including overdoses, and maintain a safe and calm environment.
- Collaborate with the team to engage residents and utilize a team approach as needed.
- Oversee resident volunteer work and disperse honorariums according to program guidelines.
- Diploma in a related human/social service field.
- A minimum of one (1) year recent related experience.
- OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Basic computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Training in or knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques and harm reduction approach.
- Ability to work independently and show initiative and creativity.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of and ability to employ behavior management techniques.
- Ability to work in an intense and challenging work environment.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to navigate stairs and be on feet for up to 6 hours of shift.
