Mental Health Specialist

Mental Health Practitioners play a vital role in supporting the mental wellbeing of students.
Main Responsibilities- To enhance prevention and promotion activities for student mental health and wellbeing by contributing to school health plans, building staff capability, and delivering programs according to school priorities.
- Provide early intervention services for individual students or groups identified as at-risk; and
- Coordinate supports for students with complex needs within and external to the school, including working with regions, local mental health service providers, and other health professionals as required.
- Ability to implement group and whole-school prevention and promotion activities to improve student mental health and wellbeing, including capability building and awareness raising activities for staff and/or students on key issues affecting the student population.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to processes and strategies aimed at enhancing mental health and wellbeing prevention, promotion, and early intervention.
- Demonstrated experience in assessing, conceptualising, and analysing wellbeing issues, and providing evidence-based direct counselling support to clients with mental health needs.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating supports for young people with complex needs, including referrals to specialist services as appropriate.
- Highly developed communication, networking, and interpersonal skills, including liaising effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Understanding of legislative requirements regarding privacy of health information.
- A minimum qualification as a psychologist, social worker, mental health nurse, occupational therapist, or counsellor of a prescribed class.
- Direct counselling experience.
- A current Working With Children Check.
- Specialisation in educational and/or developmental psychology for Psychology applicants.
- Mental Health Nurse Credential and membership with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses for Mental Health Nurse applicants.
- Membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers and Accredited Social Worker Trade Mark for Social Work applicants.
- Better Access to Mental Health Endorsement for Occupational Therapy applicants.
- Level 3-4 registration (ACA) or Registered Clinical Counsellor endorsement (PACFA) for Counselling applicants.
