Senior Parklands Ecologist Role Overview

This key position involves ensuring the optimal functioning of ecosystems within Sydney Olympic Park. The ideal candidate will lead ecological conservation and compliance efforts, design monitoring programs, manage habitat enhancement projects, and implement pest control measures while providing expert technical advice to ensure legislative compliance.

The successful candidate will engage with diverse stakeholders using an adaptive management framework to achieve biodiversity management objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a substantial understanding of urban parkland ecosystem management issues.
  • Utilize expertise in interpreting and applying environmental legislation, developing guidelines, preparing licence applications, liaising with regulatory authorities, conducting assessments and audits, and reporting.
  • Manage procurement and contracts, ensuring compliance with service agreements.
  • Exercise autonomy in decision-making and accountability for delivering work assignments on time and to quality expectations.
  • Employ strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with the team, manage service providers, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Apply strong problem-solving abilities to navigate complex challenges and adapt to evolving situations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Hold tertiary qualifications in natural sciences (ecology, biology, natural resource management or related area) or possess equivalent professional experience.
