Earth Scientist Educator

The Monash Geomorphology Lab within the School of Earth, Atmosphere, and Environment is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Lecturer to contribute to undergraduate teaching, research, and professional development in Earth Sciences.
About the Position
- This role offers a unique opportunity to deliver undergraduate courses in at least three areas: introductory-level geomorphology, fluvial geomorphology with a focus on catchment hydrology, field geomorphology in an Australian context, referencing Quaternary Science, and programming for data analysis and presentation in Earth Sciences.
- Candidates will conduct collaborative and independent research within the Monash Geomorphology Lab, with opportunities to co-mentor research students in aeolian geomorphology, arid environment evolution, and planetary geomorphology (e.g., Mars and Titan).
- Successful applicants will work towards publishing research, developing teaching expertise, and securing competitive research funding with mentorship and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality undergraduate courses, including lectures, tutorials, and workshops, in at least three areas of specialization.
- Conduct original research, collaborate with colleagues, and publish results in reputable academic journals.
- Develop and maintain a strong record of research productivity, including publications, presentations, and grants.
- Mentor and supervise research students, ensuring their academic success and career development.
- Participate in departmental and school-wide service activities, contributing to curriculum development, program review, and committee work.
Requirements
- A doctorate in a relevant discipline or closely related field.
- A strong passion for teaching and research in Earth Sciences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
