About the Role

The Law Society of New South Wales is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Speechcraft Specialist to join our team.

Reporting into the Senior Speech Writer, you will be responsible for the development of high-quality speeches for the President, CEO, and Law Society officeholders and representatives at events.

You will undertake complex and sensitive research of speeches, providing expert advice on announcements and events.

This role requires liaison with internal and external organisations, including the judiciary, members of parliament, and senior legal profession figures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop high-quality speeches through research and analysis of complex topics.
  • Maintain awareness of organisational issues to inform speech development.
  • Clarify information and ensure speeches are prepared in the presenter's style, relevant to the audience.
  • Ensure timely access to required information through strategic working relationships and systems.
  • Research, write, proof, and edit copy for various styles and formats.
  • Attend events with the President and/or CEO as required, providing support and coordination for speech delivery.
  • Research and write copy for Law Society publications, including Monday Briefs and op-eds.
  • Provide input into strategies for influencing public opinion on public policy issues through media and public relations campaigns.
Requirements
  • Completion of a degree in an appropriate field or equivalent combination of experience and education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience in researching, analysing, and coordinating information, preparing speeches, and drafting reports.
  • High level of computer literacy using Microsoft Office suite products and website publication.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships and strategic networks.
  • Politically astute with ability to work independently, apply judgement, diplomacy, and initiative.
  • Maintain confidentiality and deliver clear, accurate copy with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills, prioritising tasks, and meeting deadlines.
