We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the University of Adelaide, specializing in Geomechanics and Carbon Storage Science. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and development in the field of GeoEnergy.
Key Responsibilities- Develop multiscale geomechanical tools and workflows to assist in basin-scale screening for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) locations.
- Predict pre-injection stress conditions and geomechanical properties of potential CO2 storage sites.
- Quantify the impact of historical injection and extraction activities on the poro-thermo-mechanical properties of target CO2 and understand how such changes may impact the likelihood of geomechanical reservoir deformation.
- Understand how fault rock properties impact the likelihood of fault reactivation during CO2 injection.
- Constrain how CO2-water-rock interactions impact the geomechanical integrity of reservoirs and seals.
- PhD in structural geology, geomechanics, tectonics, or geophysics.
- Established record of scientific achievements in structural geology, geomechanics, tectonics, or geophysics, including publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Demonstrated knowledge and outstanding interdisciplinary research skills related to shallow crustal deformation and geomechanics.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work as both an independent researcher and as a member of a diverse research team.
- Experience in the interpretation and modeling of subsurface geomechanical and geophysical datasets.
- Experience in the numerical modeling of shallow crustal deformation processes.
- Experience of or familiarity with experimental rock mechanics and/or gas-water-rock interactions.
- Knowledge of the hydraulic properties of fault and fracture systems in relation to subsurface CO2 storage.
