An exciting opportunity has arisen within our team to support the pharmacy department at Perth Royal Infirmary as a Trainee Rotational Pharmacy Support Worker. No prior experience in healthcare is necessary, as comprehensive training will be provided.

The role involves dispensing, picking, and issuing medicines, managing stock, and supporting ward medicine management processes, including top-up services and assessments. A key aspect of this position is the processing and evaluation of returned medicines.

Upon successful completion of the training framework, candidates will transfer to a Rotational Pharmacy Support Worker post (band 3).

Required qualities and skills include:

  • A commitment to achieving training objectives
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to adapt to daily service needs
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in using keyboards, computers, and electronic devices/equipment

The training framework encompasses:

  • NHS Scotland Healthcare Support Worker induction standards
  • GPhC approved pharmacy support worker course (eLearning)
  • Local PSW competency training and assessment
  • Familiarity with standard operating procedures

The expected duration of the training framework is approximately 15 months, although progress rates may vary depending on individual candidates.

Candidates must achieve mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and adhere to the Code of Conduct throughout their employment.

Hours of work are 37 hours per week, spread over 7 days, with participation in extended hours, public holidays, and weekend working rotas required.
