Technical Officer Position

The College of Engineering, Science and Environment seeks a highly skilled Technical Officer to oversee the Modern Manufacturing Workshop.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to work closely with researchers, academics, students, and industry partners to deliver high-precision fabrication, rapid prototyping, and custom solutions.

About the Role:
  • Scheduling and coordinating workshop operations, inductions, and equipment training
  • Liaising with researchers, academics, and industry partners to scope and prioritise jobs
  • Operating and programming CNC and multi-axis lathes, as well as manual equipment
  • Reviewing and producing CAD technical drawings to support prototyping and research
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards, SOPs, and safe workshop practices
Requirements:
  • At least four years subsequent relevant experience in Engineering; or extensive experience and management expertise in technical fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated leadership capability including the ability to lead and inspire a team of technical staff
  • Ability to generate a strong sense of team spirit, cooperation, and collaboration within and across teams
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an interdisciplinary way of working
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage and coordinate workshop activities, ensuring timely completion of tasks
  2. Develop and implement effective strategies for delivering bespoke manufacturing solutions
  3. Lead and mentor technical staff, promoting a culture of innovation and excellence
