We are seeking a skilled Maintenance & Reliability Engineer to support the EVO class locomotives.

This role is vital in ensuring the reliability and performance of our advanced fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigations and Troubleshooting: Participate in, and at times lead, investigations of in-service failures, analysing root causes and resolving critical issues.
  • Collaboration and Asset Management: Collaborate with Asset Management to review task lists and develop work instructions for the Spotswood site.
  • Fleet Performance Monitoring: Conduct daily fleet performance reviews and deliver weekly/monthly reports to Pacific National, performing trend analysis to enhance performance within budget and contractual limits.
  • Corrective Actions and Improvement Initiatives: Recommend corrective actions and asset improvement initiatives, considering safety, cost, quality, and reliability.
  • Data Accuracy and Compliance: Monitor and ensure the accuracy of data used for performance reporting, addressing discrepancies to maintain high-quality reporting.
  • Asset Configuration and Compliance: Oversee the configuration of assets and compliance with Technical Maintenance Plans, reporting any anomalies.
  • Customer and Stakeholder Engagement: Attend and actively participate in meetings with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate issue resolution.
  • Record-Keeping: Ensure compliance with all record-keeping requirements.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced candidate with:


  • A 4-year Engineering Degree in Electrical (preferred) or Mechanical, ideally with AC traction experience.
  • 2 years' experience in the rail industry or similar heavy industry.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels.
  • Customer-focused, team-oriented, accountable, and results-driven.
  • Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines, and follow through in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience in Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., SAP) is desirable.
