Job Title: Data Analytics Lead

Overview

Grant Thornton is seeking a strategic thinker to lead our Data Analytics team in Melbourne. The successful candidate will be responsible for building local presence and capability, working with internal stakeholders and external clients to translate business problems into actionable data projects.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who understands the power of asking the right questions and can tailor their message to resonate with different audiences.


Key Responsibilities
  • Becoming the founding Melbourne team member for Data Analytics, building local relationships and pipeline to accelerate team growth
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external clients to understand business requirements and translate them into scoped analytics projects with clear outcomes
  • Identifying data sources, gathering relevant information, and performing data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT)
  • Conducting exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover patterns, trends, and anomalies that inform decision-making
  • Developing and maintaining data models, dashboards, and reports using tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python, Databricks, and Alteryx
  • Leading Agile delivery cadences (backlog, sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews) and managing work in Azure DevOps (Boards, Repos, Pipelines), including code reviews and QA checks
  • Providing actionable insights and recommendations based on data findings, and presenting clear narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Mentoring and coaching junior analysts as the Melbourne team scales, fostering a culture of quality, reuse, and continuous improvement

Requirements
  • Significant experience as a Data Analyst or Analytics Consultant, preferably in a professional services environment, with comfort serving both internal stakeholders and external clients
  • Strong technical skills in SQL and Python, with experience across Databricks/Spark and Power BI; familiarity with Alteryx (or similar) is a plus
  • Demonstrated delivery leadership using Agile ways of working and Azure DevOps
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams, adapting communication for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor team members, setting clear standards and uplifting capability
