About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled support worker to join our team. The successful applicant will provide vital services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people taken into police custody.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to calls from local police stations for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Conduct welfare checks at the local police station.
  • Provide advice to local police about community members' needs and referrals to support services as required.
  • Assist clients with interviews and bail hearings as requested by the client.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including providing availability for shift rosters, attending staff meetings, and ensuring accurate completion of reporting and data management tasks.

Requirements:

  • High level of dependability and reliability.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with vulnerable individuals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people interacting with the Victorian criminal legal system.
  • Ability to take initiative, act calmly, and work well under own direction in challenging situations.

Working Conditions:

  • Part-time or casual role available.
  • 28 hours per week.
  • Salary packaging and access to company vehicles for work-related trips.

  • Applicants must be Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Relevant experience and qualifications will be highly regarded.
