We are seeking an experienced Safety Executive for the Carmichael Mine, a significant coal mining project located in central Queensland.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a robust Safety Health & Management System (SHMS) to meet operational objectives and legislative requirements. This includes ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, as well as developing a safety culture that promotes accountability, ownership, and responsibility across the site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and regularly review all components of the Carmichael Mine SHMS, including electronic and hardcopy records, and update the system with risk-based or legislatively required content changes.
  • Ensure system audits are conducted, non-conformances identified and rectified, and monitor, report, and intervene in the site-based Field Leadership process as necessary.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to stakeholders on the implementation of the SHMS, with a focus on working with principal contractors to ensure training and operations align with the SHMS and online system.
  • Guide SSE and senior personnel on the implementation and application of the SHMS.
  • Directly guide the safety team in implementing and applying the SHMS as a practical application.
  • Accountable for maintaining and upgrading the site's selected online compliance system, including managing administration resources and data input.
  • Manage site appointments and Mine Record Register.
  • Manage DNRME Safety Alerts and promulgate to site workers as required.
  • Maintain currency with legislation and industry standards related to site safety.
  • Develop and maintain the Carmichael Mine Broad Brush Risk Assessment for all activities on site, including oversight and input into management of Fatal Risk and Critical Control implementation and verification.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training management matrix with an internal Training Needs Analysis, complying with current RS22 and RS11 conditions.
  • Liaise with management during the initial on-boarding of subcontractor companies.

Requirements of the Role

We seek a dedicated professional with a strong passion for safety and risk management. Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in the coal and resources industry.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Tertiary qualifications in safety and risk.
  • Auditing qualifications and experience.
  • Investigation qualifications and experience.
  • Demonstrable ability in working within fast-paced, outcome-oriented environments.
  • A working knowledge and experience of safety and risk legislation.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.

This role offers a competitive remuneration package, including an estimated salary of $120,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. The successful applicant will join a dynamic team committed to delivering high standards and fostering a positive work environment.
