About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our team at JP Smith, a leading private engineering firm specializing in civil and structural design and project management. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for managing civil design projects and providing technical input to the design team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project management of civil designs and provide technical input to the design team.
  • Undertake analysis and preparation of technical reports for various aspects of projects including stormwater management, pavement and surfacing.
  • Undertake inspections of works in progress to verify compliance against design.
  • Administration of construction contracts.
  • Liaising and coordination with colleagues, clients, subconsultants and contractors.
  • Mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Scoping of projects and preparation of fee proposals.
  • Communicate across all levels and interpret client needs.
Requirements
  • Extensive Australian experience in a relevant civil engineering area.
  • Civil Engineering degree recognized by Engineers Australia.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or eligibility for registration is not required, however will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practices of planning and design of road systems, hydraulics and hydrology for stormwater design, and sewerage and water reticulation.
  • Detailed knowledge of Austroads design requirements for geometric design of rural and urban roads.
  • Detailed knowledge of Austroads and DTMR requirements for pavement and surfacing design.
  • Thorough knowledge of QUDM and hydrological assessment of rural and urban environments.
  • Experience with DRAINS, CIRCLY, WaterCad software packages will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of construction projects and ability to convey practical knowledge to design team.
  • Experience with administration of civil construction projects.
  • High degree of organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and demonstrated written communication skills (fluent and structured reports).
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with team members, senior staff, utility authorities, government departments, contractors and clients.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience (minimum 5 years relevant Australian experience).
