About the Role

As a Principal Software Engineering Manager in Azure Networking at Microsoft, you will lead a team responsible for designing and implementing massive scale data centre network architecture, network infrastructure automatic management, software defined networking, and high scalable/available/reliable distributed service design/implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guide partnership with stakeholders to determine user requirements within and across teams.
  • Lead teams to identify dependencies and develop design documents for products, applications, services, or platforms.
  • Optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability.
  • Drive multiple groups' project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Act as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and monitor engineers across product lines.
  • Lead product development and scaling to customer requirements and apply best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations.
  • Identify root causes of network issues and system performance bottlenecks, propose technical solutions, and reach out to customers to solve their pain points.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in technical people leadership and mentorship of a software engineering team.
  • Significant commercial experience in a software development environment.
  • Ability to evolve and uplift engineering practices and culture to build a world-class engineering team.
  • Solid understanding of cloud development principles and patterns and excellent communications skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to quickly adapt to new technology and go deep.
  • Confidence in tackling ambiguous problems, owning projects end-to-end, reasoning about performance and reliability, and producing quality code.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including Golang, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge about highly reliable distributed systems, micro services, service fabric, Azure DevOps, Redis, Bootstrap.
  • Familiarity with common network protocols, such as TCP, BGP, IP routing, IPv6, and experience with networking router configuration.
  • Technical passion and terrific problem-solving skills to drive for results and impact.
