Role Overview

This role is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing union strategies that align with broader objectives.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate and committed individual who is dedicated to improving workers' lives and achieving the goals of the organization. They should have extensive experience in union and political organizing, recruitment, and campaigning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and direct union strategies and plans that align with organizational goals;
  • Develop strategic plans for other union portfolios to support their goals and objectives;
  • Implement and promote practices, policies, and systems that contribute to the organization's goals, including diversity, inclusive workplaces, and addressing barriers to participation or discrimination;
  • Build, lead, and manage multiple teams and coordinate the delivery of plans with the involvement of other union portfolios;
  • Lead and direct lobbying efforts in government, including assisting and contributing to submissions, inquiries, and other opportunities to further the organization's priorities;
  • Use Organizing (or equivalent) systems and tools to retrieve and analyze data, provide advice on risks, and report against target outcomes, taking steps to mitigate risks or improve outcomes;
  • Drive reform in the organization through this portfolio;
  • Translate and contribute to best practice outcomes to increase knowledge across the whole organization in political organizing and campaigning;
  • Lead negotiations with government and other stakeholders.
Selection Criteria:
  • A passion and drive to improve workers' lives and achieve the organization's goals;
  • Extensive relevant experience in union and political organizing, recruitment, and campaigning;
  • Experience in strategic planning, reporting, and analysis;
  • Experience in leading teams, developing leaders, motivating, and educating others;
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and rapport-building skills;
  • Ability to build relationships internally and externally, including development and maintenance of cross-factional relations.

To perform this job, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:

  • A valid driver's licence;
  • Right of Entry Permits;
  • Immunisation against COVID-19 or a medical exemption.
