Senior Environmental Research Specialist For Climate-Smart Forestry

Sustainable forest management is crucial for Australia's timber future. This role offers the opportunity to shape the country's climate-smart forestry sector while gaining valuable experience in sustainable resource management and regional innovation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on social acceptability and maintaining social license in forestry management.
  • Publish and disseminate findings through academic publications and seminars/conferences.
  • Engage with industry, government, and community partners to gather data and refine investment frameworks.
  • Support research training by contributing to the supervision and mentoring of research students.

Requirements:

  • A PhD (or near completion) in a relevant social science discipline, such as environmental sociology or natural resource management.
  • Experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods relevant to social license and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for academic publications and stakeholder interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to undertake fieldwork in the Gippsland region and participate in extended field trips within Victoria.
