About the Role
We seek a visionary leader to spearhead our inclusion initiatives. As Head of Special Education Services, you will champion student-centered support for students with disabilities, fostering an environment that embodies complexity, compassion, and innovation.
- Leadership in Inclusion: Develop and sustain school-wide inclusive culture, supporting approximately 60% of our student population identified through the NCCD process.
- Navigating Complexity: Respond to high vulnerability within our community through trauma-aware, student-focused practices.
- Collaborative Coaching: Partner with classroom teachers to design and implement curriculum adjustments, access strategies, and student-centered planning that supports engagement, progress, and wellbeing.
- Community Partnership: Work alongside families, therapists, and community services to ensure holistic, wraparound support for students.
- Personalized Learning Plans: Coordinate and quality assure the development of ICPs, Behaviour Support Plans, and other supports aligned with legislative and departmental expectations.
- Modeling Inclusive Practices: Uphold the dignity of every child, ensuring all students belong, participate, and achieve.
- Expert Advice: Provide guidance on behaviour support, disability provisions, and inclusive education processes.
- Visible Leadership: Foster staff support, advocate for students, and contribute to whole-school leadership and improvement.
- Strategic Knowledge: Deep understanding of inclusive education, disability legislation, and the NCCD process.
- Experience Working with Vulnerable Students: Demonstrated experience working with students and families in complex settings.
- Relationship Building: Ability to establish trusted relationships with students, staff, families, and external stakeholders.
- Instructional Leadership: Capacity to coach and mentor others in inclusive and trauma-aware practice.
- Organizational Skills: Manage casework, compliance, and program delivery.
Key Requirements
- Degree Qualification: Relevant degree qualification or equivalent experience.
- Professional Registration: Registration with relevant professional bodies.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal.
- Leadership Experience: Proven leadership experience in a related field.
- Disability Awareness: Strong knowledge of disability awareness and support principles.
