SEGULA Technologies Australia invites applications for a Design Engineer position at one of our client offices.
Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing concept designs for physical products, incorporating sound Industrial Design principles to ensure usability and aesthetics. This role requires thorough consideration of product cost implications and undertaking detailed design tasks for mechanical components and sub-systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Marketing & Sales, and Field personnel to capture key product requirements and pain points with existing products.
- Execute comprehensive benchmarking of global product offerings to inform concept development.
- Develop design concepts that meet all product requirements as defined by the product specification.
- Pursue opportunities to add innovative features beyond those explicitly requested, enhancing customer satisfaction.
- Utilise sound industrial design principles to achieve high levels of usability (ergonomics) and aesthetics (branding/look & feel).
- Engage with Purchasing/Supply Chain to ensure concept designs can be produced using viable and cost-effective manufacturing processes.
- Design of mechanical components and systems.
- Creation of part drawings and specifications.
- Creation of Assembly drawings and Bill of Materials.
- Release of mechanical documents to Production.
- Evaluate all designs against product requirements.
- Simulation of systems considering thermal, electrical, and magnetic effects.
- Update and manage existing mechanical designs to support ongoing production.
- Analyse and develop test plans to validate designs against relevant standards.
- Development and construction of test fixtures for design validation and production.
- Development and construction of marketing showcases for new products.
- Detailed cost analysis of in-development products focusing on material costs and volume considerations.
- Management and creation of external-facing documents such as user guides and field notices.
Qualifications
5 years' experience in a relevant engineering field.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related technical discipline.
Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000 per annum, depending on experience.
