About the Role
The University of Melbourne's Werribee Campus is seeking an Equine Veterinary Nurse to play a key role in supporting clinical and research activities. This position focuses on providing high-quality lameness and imaging services, patient care, and efficient nursing assistance for veterinarians and researchers.
Working closely with imaging technicians, the successful candidate will be involved in horse handling, diagnostic imaging procedures, and strict adherence to safety protocols, including radiation and infection control.
This role requires maintaining stock requirements and upholding best practice standards in infection control within the Equine Centre, contributing to a well-coordinated and safe clinical environment.
Your Responsibilities:
- Provide veterinary nursing support and horse handling to assist in the delivery of high-level lameness and imaging services, patient care, and efficient nursing assistance to veterinarians and researchers in a timely manner according to best practice.
- Assist with imaging activities under the direction of imaging technicians and veterinarians within the Equine Centre in accordance with radiation and operational safety protocols.
- Ensure efficient veterinary nursing service at all times and maintain timely stock requirements, functional equipment, and adherence to best practice standards of infection control.
- Monitor personnel and animals entering imaging suites to ensure their safety and adherence to safety protocols at all times.
- Maintain imaging suites ensuring areas are organised and clean in accordance with infection control requirements.
- Assist with patient clinical procedures in a timely manner under the direction of veterinarians, senior staff in accordance with relevant policies, procedures, and SOPs.
- Record and maintain all documentation, patient records, animal ethics records in accordance with best practice, University policies, procedures, and SOPs.
- Involvement with student teaching as vet students come through the lameness centre on clinical rotations.
Who We Are Looking For
We seek a candidate with a genuine passion for horses, experience handling horses, and professionalism, enthusiasm, initiative, and a proactive attitude toward learning new skills and tasks.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Completion of a relevant Certificate III or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
- Proven veterinary nursing experience and animal handling skills in a veterinary clinical environment, particularly with equine patients.
- Completion of a Veterinary Nursing diploma or/and a radiation licence working in veterinary diagnostic imaging is highly desirable.
Salary Package: The salary package for this position includes a base salary of approximately $80,000 per annum, plus generous leave provisions, salary packaging, health and wellbeing services, and discounts on graduate courses.
