The CSIRO is undertaking research in the field of environmental DNA (eDNA) to push the boundaries of this emerging science.

About the Role
  • This role will involve designing and testing eDNA sampling methods to maximise recovery, developing protocols to minimise between-sample variability, and establishing new methods to enrich insights from eDNA metabarcoding data.
Key Responsibilities

eDNA has the potential to revolutionise how we detect and measure marine biodiversity. However, its use as a reliable tool for quantifying species abundance or biomass remains limited by unresolved challenges in sampling design, DNA recovery, and signal variability.

A multidisciplinary team at CSIRO is working to address these challenges through research into eDNA enrichment, quantification, and modelling software methods.

This is an opportunity to take a lead role in eDNA R&D, designing and testing novel field and laboratory methods that will expand what eDNA science can achieve.

The team is dedicated to exploring the potential of eDNA science and pushing the boundaries of what is currently possible. The role will involve collaborating with other researchers to develop and implement new methods, as well as contributing to the development of new technologies.
