About the Opportunity

Melbourne City Mission is a leading not-for-profit organisation that provides a range of services to support vulnerable individuals and communities. As a Disability Advisor - Youth Justice System, you will play a critical role in assisting the Children's Court to identify young people with disabilities and provide specialist assessment and support to enhance their knowledge, skills, and access to appropriate services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide recommendations regarding appropriate supports and services for young people assessed.
  • Ensure support to young people and families is culturally responsive and reflective of the community in which they are a part.
  • Provide ongoing feedback through reports and discussions with young people, families, and carers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Adopt a risk management approach to problem-solving to assist in identifying issues that may have ramifications for the young person.
  • Uphold professional standards by demonstrating best practice and keeping abreast of practice developments, government policy, and statutory requirements to ensure service is of a high standard.
Requirements
  • Registered psychologist with AHPRA.
  • Competence and confidence in diagnostic assessments (including WISC-V, WAIS-IV, Vineland 3, ABAS, and autism assessment tools).
  • Ability to implement effective caseload management strategies.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to balance and deliver on case load requirements of the role.
  • An understanding of the requirements for ensuring child safety.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other professionals to enhance the supports provided to young people and their support networks.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Current Driver's licence and ability to access own vehicle.
Screening Criteria
  • National Police check.
  • Working with Children check and NDIS Worker Screening check or ability to obtain.
  • Valid Victorian Drivers licence.
  • Right to Work in Australia.
