About the Role
The University of Notre Dame Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Specialist to join our Student Experience portfolio. As a Student Counsellor, you will play a critical role in providing professional counselling services to students, facilitating their personal, emotional, social, and educational transition and adjustment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Confidential Counselling Services: Offer a confidential and ethical counselling service to University students, referring them to external agencies as needed to support long-term counselling objectives.
- Assessment and Case Management: Conduct assessments, case management, and counselling for students, including those in high-risk situations and with complex mental health concerns.
- Peer and Group Supervision: Participate in and contribute to peer and group supervision, client outcome evaluation, and quality assurance processes, including maintaining accurate student records and documentation.
- Crisis Intervention and Support: Deliver crisis intervention support and strategies with students, providing referrals to those affected by incidents involving students.
- Workshops and Training: Develop and deliver workshops, training, and facilitating groups on topics such as client-centred and short-term solution-focused counselling, CBT, ACT, and mindfulness.
- Collaboration and Liaison: Collaborate and liaise with other departments to provide strategic and specialist input on the development of University mental wellbeing, safety, pastoral care, mediation, and other learning support for students.
About You
- Relevant Qualifications and Experience: Hold relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology or counselling and have significant experience in delivering workshops and providing counselling services.
- Registration and Certification: Be registered with a relevant professional body, such as AHPRA and/or Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and/or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
- Clinical Skills and Knowledge: Possess strong assessment, intervention, and referral skills, with experience in outcome-informed counselling approaches and working with high-risk students and complex mental health issues.
- Communication and Organisational Skills: Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to manage time, hold strong organisational skills, and respond to changing priorities.
