About the Role

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Analyst to join the Emissions Reduction Division. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering policies to reduce Australia's greenhouse gas emissions and track progress toward our national emission reduction targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the compilation of fugitive emissions estimates for the oil and gas sector for Australia's National Greenhouse Accounts.
  • Research and design new opportunities to improve the accuracy and completeness of fugitive emissions estimation methods, in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Provide advice to policymakers on fugitive emissions estimation methods and emissions trends.
  • Fulfil requests for information and analysis on Australia's emissions and emissions accounting frameworks.
  • Support the team in departmental and whole-of-government briefings.
  • Participate in international reviews of Australia's emissions estimates and gain qualifications to participate in reviews of other countries' emissions estimates under Paris Agreement review processes.
Requirements
  • Experience working in emission estimation method development.
  • Experience advising on and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and time-critical processes.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with crude oil or gas industry activities, greenhouse gas emissions estimation, the National Greenhouse Accounts, and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting scheme are desirable but not mandatory.
