Lead Ecological Consultant
Position Overview:
As a key player in the resources, renewable energy, and local government sectors, our Queensland Ecology Team is on the lookout for a Senior Ecologist to enhance our skilled workforce in Brisbane.
In this position, you will engage in a diverse array of projects, providing innovative ecological and environmental solutions for our clientele. We encourage our team members to challenge conventional approaches to project and technical execution to cultivate these solutions.
Our projects span the entirety of Queensland. Daily tasks may include conducting surveys for threatened species associated with national infrastructure initiatives, as well as identifying and mapping Regional Ecosystems, protected flora, and endangered ecological communities. You will also assist clients in planning and evaluating the effectiveness of their biodiversity offsets.
Responsibilities will encompass proposal and report development, client engagement, and project oversight. As a Senior Ecologist, you will collaborate closely with the Ecology Team Leads to produce high-quality technical outputs, mentor junior staff, and embody our organizational values.
On a national level, you will connect and work with the broader Ecology Discipline, which comprises over 70 ecologists. This environment will allow you to acquire new skills and contribute uniquely to our company's mission of:
'Leading with science to guide critical environmental decisions and deliver effective solutions.'
Candidate Profile:
We recognize your desire to be part of a company that nurtures your passion for ecology, aligns with your purpose, and provides environmental solutions that create a positive impact. If you thrive in a setting where you can enjoy camaraderie and dedication alongside a team of motivated and talented individuals, you will find a great fit here.
To excel in this role, you should ideally possess:
- A minimum of 6 years of ecological experience in Queensland, with a preference for Central Queensland expertise.
- Proficiency in Regional Ecosystem mapping and BioCondition assessments.
- The capability to independently organize and lead surveys targeting threatened species, endangered ecological communities, and habitat assessments in compliance with Queensland and Commonwealth environmental regulations.
- Willingness and enthusiasm for fieldwork (up to 12 days) in remote areas or within the mining and resources sector.
- Strong skills in flora identification are highly desirable.
- Experience in project management and confidence in client interactions.
- Excellent technical report writing abilities.
- A willingness to share your expertise and provide training/mentoring in your field.
- Previous involvement with offsets under both Queensland and Commonwealth regulations is advantageous.
If you are interested in working with us but feel you may not meet all the specified criteria, we encourage you to reach out. You may be an ideal candidate for another ecology position within our Queensland team.
What We Offer:
We adhere to Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) standards, ensuring equitable pay across all roles within our organization. Our welcoming and inclusive team enjoys socializing and sharing experiences from fieldwork. We advocate for flexible and hybrid working arrangements for all positions.
You can explore our company benefits on our careers page, and be assured that we maintain a progressive, non-gendered 12-week paid parental leave policy. Additionally, we offer a birthday leave benefit (an extra day off on your birthday).
