Key Job Responsibilities

This role focuses on driving sustainability and promoting climate resilience in Merri-bek. The Environmental Sustainability Officer will provide expert technical advice on various sustainability issues, including sustainable design and development of the built environment.

  • Technical referrals for internal and external planning applications based on comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Collaboration with Council Statutory Planning staff to ensure high ESD compliance across all projects.
  • Representation at special interest or organisational forums as required.
  • Project management of projects that advance ESD objectives for Merri-bek in consultation with team leaders and unit managers.

The successful candidate will have a strong passion for sustainability and experience in environmental engineering, sustainable design, or a related field. They will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to achieve meaningful environmental outcomes.
