The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled communications Technical Officer to join our team at the Australian Government Department of Defence. As a Technical Officer, you will be responsible for performing complex technical communication work in compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision making, and Defence's mission and policy requirements.

You will be part of a small team that provides detailed technical and professional advice in relation to state of the art Tactical Electronic Warfare systems. You will be able to work autonomously and display high levels of initiative and judgment when working on technical problems and shifting priorities.

Successful candidates will need to possess excellent communication and people management skills. We are seeking candidates with a diverse range of technical experience and backgrounds, including people who have gained their experience outside Defence and Government. The Technical Officer will possess a demonstrated understanding of the Defence Industry sector in Australia.

The EWIS Land Engineering and Technical Team is comprised of members of diverse skills and disciplines who work together to provide governance, assurance, and enabling services to support a wide variety of activities undertaken by EWIS Land Executive and SPO business units.

  • Perform complex communication technical activities and associated tasks working to agreed priorities and outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge of relevant processes, packages, product, and equipment.
  • Apply technical knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties and take these into account in planning, decision making, and priority setting.
  • Assess whether technical packages, reports, processes, product, and equipment performance meet the specified requirements, provide recommendations for continuous improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure safety aspects of Defence capability are considered and incorporated into communications technical activities and tasks.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have highly developed communication skills.
