Design Engineer

About the Role
The University of Melbourne is seeking a Graduate Engineer to play a vital role in the Workshop by designing and implementing practical solutions. The successful candidate will assist the Workshop Manager with various tasks, including managing orders, sourcing suppliers, and overseeing workshop access.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and innovating product designs, systems, or prototypes that meet specified requirements and project goals.
- Assisting the Workshop Manager with workshop needs, including machinery maintenance, security access, and booking management.
- Implementing clear protocols and processes to facilitate the operationalisation of new research and teaching facilities.
- Providing design support to the workshop services team throughout the production process.
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, enabling them to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. A customer service mindset and proven track record of maintaining high-quality service for a diverse range of customers are essential.
The ideal candidate will have:
- An engineering degree and relevant experience.
- Proficiency in engineering design software, computer-aided design (CAD) tools, and other relevant engineering software.
- Experience working in a team within a scientific or medical laboratory environment or similar.
- Experience in a tertiary education environment.
