Job Opportunity: Canteen Manager

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent communication and customer service abilities, and the ability to manage daily operations of a busy canteen.

  • Manage the daily operations of the canteen under the guidance of senior management.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate practices are followed in relation to cleanliness, hygiene, health regulations, and food safety standards.
  • Be accountable for counting and recording daily takings, including balancing cash and card transactions.
  • Ensure security of the canteen and all equipment used in canteen operations.
  • Adhere to occupational health and safety regulations and maintain current certifications.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the canteen each day that students are at school or as agreed by management.
  • Promote an interesting, healthy, varied, and innovative menu to cater to student tastes.
  • Cater for selected school meetings or events if required.
  • Submit a Food Safety Program with the relevant authorities and update as required.
  • Monitor and record daily temperatures on all fridges and freezers.
  • Undertake shopping, ordering of goods, and preparation of purchase orders, and check stock deliveries to invoice.
  • Store and rotate stock appropriately.
  • Conduct regular stock takes.
  • Prepare canteen menu and pricing for management approval.
  • Update the online ordering program with up-to-date menu items and pricing.
  • Prepare food for sale to students and staff at recess and lunchtime.
  • Clean all food preparation equipment and surfaces ensuring the highest level of hygiene.
