Acquisitions Librarian Role Overview

This is a part-time permanent post with the National Library of Scotland, based at our Causewayside building in Edinburgh. The salary is £30,607 (£12,242 pro-rata), with a Civil Service pension.

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our Acquisitions Team as an Acquisitions Librarian. This role involves working closely with sellers and donors, sourcing and ordering publications, checking and recording new acquisitions and invoices on Library systems, and responding to enquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and stakeholders to acquire print and digital publications for the Library.
  2. Source and order publications, ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisition.
  3. Verify and record new acquisitions and invoices on Library systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  4. Provide excellent customer service and respond to enquiries from stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Highly motivated and organized individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Library systems and technology.

Working with Creative Scotland:

This role will involve working closely with Creative Scotland to develop and implement strategies for acquiring print and digital publications that support the Library's collections and services.
