The Role

The Vinnies Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Strategic Advocacy and Research team. This is an exciting opportunity to drive social change through evidence-based campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Research Agenda: Design and coordinate a comprehensive research agenda to support key advocacy priorities.
  • Partnerships: Establish and maintain partnerships with academic institutions, government bodies, and social sector organisations to support research, policy, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Government Relations: Develop and implement a government relations strategy, creating advocacy materials and presenting evidence-based solutions.
  • Strategic Advocacy Plan: Develop and implement a structured program of work to enhance our state-based advocacy platform.
  • Reporting and Coordination: Establish research and evidence-based reporting capabilities, facilitating roundtable meetings, and engaging with stakeholders to gather and analyse data.
  • Mentorship: Establish internship and student placement programs, supervising and supporting project work relating to research and advocacy.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in influencing government policy and advocacy.
  • Proven experience in developing and overseeing research projects.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, academic institutions, and community organisations.
  • Excellent project management skills with a track record of delivering complex projects.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive and positive relationships.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, personal resilience, and the ability to work proactively with limited supervision.

Desirable Skills:

  • Masters, PhD, or similar qualification demonstrating research skills.
  • Experience in the Not-For-Profit sector and/or government.
  • Success in applying for grant funding.
